Birmingham Twestival's Big Debut

April 8th, 2011 Comment

You only have one chance to make a first impression, and boy, did Twestival impress.

Twestival, an international fundraising effort, made its debut in Birmingham March 24 and it was a smashing success. Thanks to many generous donations, we surpassed our goal of $1,000 and raised $1,027 for the United Way of Central Alabama. Specifically, those funds will assist Imagination Library, a program that is committed to improving literacy in our children.

The event was also a great opportunity to finally match faces with the Twitter updates we read daily on our timelines.

Many thanks to our sponsor, Luckie & Company, Parkside Cafe for their hospitality, and to all those who gave generously.

Birmingham Twestival is almost here! How to contribute:

March 23rd, 2011 Comment

Birmingham Twestival is almost upon us, so we wanted to share some quick tips on how to contribute to the fund-raising side of the event.

Just as a reminder, all money donated at the Birmingham Twestival will help the United Way of Central Alabama support Imagination Library. This is a wonderful literacy program that provides free books each month to area children.

There's absolutely no cover charge at the Birmingham Twestival, but we do have two easy ways for you to contribute some much-needed donations to this program:

1. Bring a check made out to UWCA, with "Imagination Library" written in the memo line.

2. Bring a cash donation, which you can drop in our Twestival donation boxes at the event.

United Way representatives will be on hand to provide receipts for your tax-deductible donation. Also, every dollar donated up to the first $500 will be matched by marketing agency Luckie & Company.

Wondering how much to give? Here's a nice amount:

$30 is enough to buy a year's worth of books for one local child.
